About Terrance Beasley

While serving honorably in the active military, Terrance became inspired to carry on the legacy of the valiant frontier military (which included at least one woman documented to have served) known as the Buffalo Soldiers, in which he has had an avid interest since childhood. The Buffalo Soldiers played a pivotal role in shaping the American West, yet the history of these courageous soldiers is unknown to many. Terrance has made it his mission to keep the memory of the Buffalo Soldiers alive by raising awareness of their treasured history among various groups and audiences.

Documentary: "Buffalo Soliders: Fighting On Two Fronts"

Denver native Dru Holley’s production company is the creative team behind this informational and powerful documentary.

Established by Congress, the 14th Amendment promised citizenship in exchange for enlistment, prompting many African American men. They were denied due to Jim Crow laws but still served. The documentary examines the profound and often-contradictory roles played by Buffalo Soldiers in U.S. history, and how they fought on two sets of front lines: military conflicts abroad and civil rights struggles at home.

Community Memorial and Dedication of A Highway

A memorial To Forever Honor Black American Heroes

On July 28, 2016, the Colorado Springs Memorial Park became home to a long overdue addition of tributes to American heroes. The Buffalo Soldiers Community Memorial remembers and honors the establishment of the all-black regiments within the U.S. Army: the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry regiments. These undervalued soldiers were instrumental in the United States’ westward expansion, protecting the settlers from the East while battling their own challenges for freedom from the South.
The memorial stands today as the result of years of planning, fundraising, and dedication from the Colorado Springs Buffalo Soldier Memorial Association. The association led the charge of bringing this long overdue memorial to the park. Dedicated on the 150th anniversary, this memorial will forever honor the contributions made by these Black American Heroes.

Highway Dedication

The Colorado State Joint Resolution recognizes the contributions of the four African-American army units, the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments and the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments. The resolution designates the section of U.S. Highway 24 from Mile Marker 308 to Mile Marker 298, near Garden of the Gods, through the cities of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs, Colorado to be renamed the “Buffalo Soldiers Memorial Highway.”

Sponsors of the Resolution

CO State Representatives: Terri Carver and Pete Lee

CO State Senators: Michael Merrifield and Kent Lambert
